Solis Winery

The Vineyard: Yesterday and Today

The Solis Winery vineyard is located on the historical Rancho de Solis, an 1830's Mexican land grant that originally spread over 8,800 acres. Today, the Winery is located in one of the oldest wine-growing regions in California's Central Coast just west of downtown Gilroy.

In the late 1920s, many Italian immigrants settled in this picturesque valley – among them the Alfonso Bertero family. The vineyard remained in the Bertero family until 1980 when the Vanni family purchased the property. The original vineyard consisted of varietals like Zinfandel and Carignane.

In the mid-1980s, the Vanni's broke new ground by planting Chardonnay and Merlot, and later adding Muscat Canelli, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sangiovese. These proved fortuitous; Solis Winery's Sangiovese won California State Fair's "Best of Class of Region" three consecutive years. The Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Reserve Merlot are all Gold Medal winners.

Taste Solis Wines for yourself at our tasting room, where the spirit of Old California lives on. If you would like to tour the vineyard, please call ahead for an appointment. The Vanni's would welcome the chance to show you around.
