SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE WINE COMPETITION
GILROY, CA, January 24, 2008 Solis Winery is adding more honors to its case of trophies after winning four top awards at the 2008 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the largest wine competition of American wines in the world.
The award-winning Santa Clara Valley winery scored three prestigious Schott Zwiesel Silver Awards for its 2003 Sangiovese ($18), 2005 Merlot ($34), and 2003 Meritage, "Cara Mia" ($30). Solis' 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon ($34) also was honored with the Schott Zwiesel Bronze Award.
"We're thrilled to receive such high recognition at a competition of this caliber," said winery owner Vic Vanni. "It's rewarding to have our passion for wine realized, and it gives us motivation to further our family's tradition of producing outstanding wine."
Professional judging for the 2008 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition took place at the Cloverdale Citrus Fair over four days during the week of January 7. The exclusive event broke world records with a total of 4,235 wine entries from 1,500 distinguished wineries across the country. A panel of more than 60 professional wine judges representing trade, education, media, retail and restaurants throughout the United States evaluated the entries, featuring every significant type and style of wine.
Solis Winery's prize-winning wines are available locally. Guests are encouraged to sample them by personally visiting the winery's tasting room, located at 3920 Hecker Pass in Gilroy.
