Solis Winery Wins Orange County Wine Society Awards

GILROY, CA, June 27, 2008 – For Gilroy’s award-winning Solis Winery, life’s a beach. At the 2008 Orange County Fair Commercial Wine Competition, the Santa Clara Valley winery was honored with a prestigious Gold Medal for its 2005 Merlot, Estate ($24), and a Silver Medal for its 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, Estate ($34).

“We’re thrilled to have our local winery praised at such a noteworthy competition in Southern California,” said winery co-owner Michael Vanni. “It’s an honor for us to be able to share our family’s tradition of winemaking, and our flourishing Santa Clara Valley wine region, with wine lovers throughout our state.”

The Orange County Fair Commercial Wine Competition is co-sponsored and supported by the Orange County Wine Society, a non-profit educational corporation that promotes the knowledge and understanding of winemaking, viticulture and appreciation of wine. A total of 3,287 wines were entered and judged this year’s competition.

Wine lovers will have the opportunity to quench their thirst in the summer heat by sampling Solis Winery’s acclaimed wines at the 2008 Orange County Fair, from July 11 through August 3 at the Orange County Fairgrounds. The wines will be featured at the public tasting held in the Wine Courtyard at the Fairgrounds, which is presented by the Orange County Wine Society. For more information, visit www.ocws.org.

Solis Winery Wins At Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition

GILROY, CA, June 18, 2008 – Gilroy’s award-winning Solis Winery reached celebrity status at the 2008 Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition, scoring a total of three prestigious awards at the internationally acclaimed event.

The Santa Clara Valley winery rolled out the red carpet, honored with a Gold Medal for its 2004 Cara Mia ‘Meritage’ ($28), a Silver Medal for its 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, Estate ($34), and a Bronze Medal for its 2004 Sangiovese, Estate ($18).

“It’s an immense honor for our family winery to be hailed at a competition of such global stature,” said winery owner Vic Vanni. “We’re pleased to see that wines from our local area are receiving such high recognition, as the Santa Clara Valley has been labeled as the next reputable winemaking region, like Napa or Paso Robles. In its 69th year, the Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition is one of the most prominent contests in the United States. A total of 3,789 wines were entered in the 2008 competition from 16 different countries around the world. Evaluating the wines was a panel of nearly 100 international experts called in to determine the winners over a three-day judging period, from May 28-30. The awards were announced on Saturday, June 14 at the Wine & Cars Under the Stars fundraising event, held at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum at Fairplex in Southern California. The world-renowned Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition continues to be praised as one of the Top 5 wine contests in the United States by USA Today. Solis Winery Scores Three Wins At Best Of The Bay Wine Competition

GILROY, CA, June 4, 2008 – Gilroy’s award-winning Solis Winery scored three top medals at the 2008 Best of the Bay Wine Competition, held on May 19-20, 2008 at the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton.

The Santa Clara Valley winery was honored with a Gold Medal for its 2005 Merlot, Estate ($24), a Silver Medal for its 2004 Syrah ($20), and a Bronze Medal for its 2004 Sangiovese, Estate ($18).

“We’re truly grateful that our wines were honored at a competition so close to home,” said winery owner Vic Vanni. “It’s really special to have our family’s tradition of winemaking recognized as one of the best in the Bay Area.”

The Best of the Bay Wine Competition is a regional competition open to all commercially bonded wineries located in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Benito, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and Solano counties. A total of 280 wines from 75 wineries were judged in the competition, and only 15 Gold Medals were awarded to winning entries. Evaluating the wines were three panels of judges, including wine professionals from restaurants, wineries, wine retail stores, and other wine-related professions that are in direct contact with the wine consumer.

The public will have the opportunity to taste Solis Winery’s celebrated wine and mingle with the winemakers at the Best of the Bay Wine Competition Awards Reception & Wine Tasting Event, to be held on June 24 from 6:00-8:00PM at the Alameda County Fair Palm Pavilion.
